If you're lookin' for 'an-out-of-the-way-place' in the middle of no where......you found it!...... Haven't driven through there in about 10 years..............pretty sure it hasn't changed much.
Well, there is one job there, which is why I'm asking. My understanding is that Murphy is the County Seat. Good paying job, but it sounds a little too good to be true.
If you don't mind being in the middle of nowhere - literally - it wouldn't be bad. You're about 30 minutes out of Nampa on an easy highway, or 35/40 to Kuna. About an hour to Boise.
I go to Murphy almost every weekend to ride dirt bikes; I know the area pretty well.
I've been to Murphy's annual event Outpost Days. This is a very rural area, but in all actuality you are not that far, as the previous poster noted, from a mid-sized town. I couldn't name a possibe employer outside of ag or government. Good luck.
It's a county job, one for which I am highly qualified. The thought of living in the middle of nowhere, while doing the work I was trained to do, is really exciting to me.
The only thing that worries me is being able to find a place to live if by some miracle I was offered the job.
Thanks for all the input. I'm getting a good picture in my mind.
Hi, Greensleeves...
I found Murphy on a map. It's out in the middle of the Owyhees, and that's mighty big and mighty desolate out there! It is also about as isolated as it gets.
If I were you, I would check out the possibility of buying a large travel trailer or a mobile home before you decide to move out if you can. I also recommend coming out first before you take the job and check it out.
I am out in Murphy once or twice a month to ride (horses). It is about 40 minutes south of Nampa (Nampa's population is 81,000, so it would be your shopping center). Sits close to the Snake River at the base of the Owyhee mountains. Definatley quite, lots of outdoors/recreational activites. There are a few homes listed for sale within 20 minutes of there, but don't expect the Trump towers
