I'm from Oregon and I think someone may have pulled a fake Idaho drivers license on me. The license had all of the security features and looked real, but it was on a PVC card. In Oregon, our new drivers license cards do not come on the PVC card, they come in little laminated pouches.

Are the Idaho state drivers licenses on PVC card or in the little pouches?

I am not sure what PVC means, but I do know that Idaho is one of the testing states for receiving their driver's license from the State now, at the time you renew you now get a photo copy of your license, and the hard laminated one arrives in the mail 10 days later.

Our old DLs were laminated cards. But for quite a few years now, they have been a hard white plastic (which I suppose could be some sort of PVC product)

Really, when did they start this? No one I know has a laminated card. And everyone I know has gotten their license at the DMV the day they renewed, but I don't know anyone who has renewed in the last few months.

The new license program started last summer. You won't be able to receive your license on the spot any more- it will be delivered by mail from a central license processing area.
I believe this was begun as a potential cost saving measure for the state. It may or may not continue, depending on whether or not it actually saves any money.

Personally, I don't like the fact it will be delivered by mail. That could be a real problem if someone got their hands on another person's license. And if there was some mistake on the license, correction and issuance of a proper license will take a lot more time than when one turns out bad at a local bureau. I had this happen once, and it only took a few minutes to do a correct one at the bureau.
