We've decided to finally make the trip to see if Sandpoint is really for us . We chose to come around Christmas to get a taste of snow and cold. I really wanted to go in Jan/ Feb but that's during my last semester of school.

My question is I noticed a bridge right near the Amtrak station. Is this bridge usable? Will it be usable at around midnight in Dec? We were planning on staying at the La Quinta hotel since it is right downtown and I figured as it's only a few blocks away we could walk and save taxi fare. I pack lightly so not too worried about dragging the luggage over some snow/icy sidewalks.

Cedar Street Bridge is a business retail center and is closed at night. You'll need to get into town another way.

You can walk from the Amtrak Station to the Best Western Edgewater. The picture from Bonner County Daily Bee shows the station and the Cedar St Bridge. The bridge & street at the bottom of the picture leads to the Edgewater just off the picture to the right.

Yeah, the Best Western is pretty close to the station. But the La Quinta is better if you want to walk around downtown more frequently, that's true.
