LOL this one is my area. In CDA, you got the Sherman strip of bars, Iron horse, beacon, moose and splash. All have their niches, my personal home is beacon, and all are within a block of each other. There are a couple of other ones, but they are smaller. Downtown is always busy those nights and you could have a nice dinner at bonsai or scratch, then move onto the bars if you wanted too. Make sure you cabbing it if your not staying down here as the police focus 100% on DUI's and plan to have a blast =)

Like Shaner said, the downtown area right along Sherman has a number of bars, which makes it easy to find the one that fits your taste just by stopping by and trying them out--they're close enough if you don't like one, you can easily move on to another.

Iron Horse has live music from local bands starting at 9:00p on Fridays and Saturdays. I'm not sure what the regular schedule is for the other bars, but most do have stuff going on, May-June is really when the area's activities start ramping up. Also, the second Friday of each month April-December is the downtown "Art Walk" event, which is sometimes accompanied by music and wine tastings at various downtown businesses. That goes from 5:00-8:00.

And Shaner is also correct about the DUI patrols downtown. There is a good-sized police presence in downtown on Friday and Saturday nights throughout the spring and summer, so it's a good idea to have a place to stay that's within walking distance or to take a cab.
