Looking at buying a 50 acre property with a nice home about 4 miles outside of Troy, ID. My oldest son can commute to the University of Idaho in Moscow. My question is there anyone out there who is familiar with the small town of Troy or with Moscow itself. My sons are both adopted mixed race kids, one is Eskimo/white, and the other is black/white with nice olive skin. Hope they would be accepted by the community as far as sports, church, etc. Would welcome comments from anyone who can help with info on Troy or Moscow. Thanks.

Hi Tigerfan,
I don't think that you should be concerned about your boys being treated differently because of skin color. Troy is such a small community that other traits are far more noticed and favored or disdained over skin color. Do they know how to work hard? are they honest? fair players? respectful? clean? even tempered?

I live in the Rural Troy area. I'm curious what brings you to Troy from West Virginia. Are you associated with the University of Idaho?

I have two sons also. My husband is hispanic so I guess that they are mixed race also. However, the only time that race ever comes into play is when we have to fill out registration forms for various reasons that ask for our sons' race.

My husband is light complected, of Mexican descent, raised in East LA. He has never felt prejudice. People here accept him for who he is. There are occaisional comments made about "*******s", "beaners", "illegals", etc. But, he recognizes that people aren't talking about him. He never crossed the Riogrande, and he was born in the states. He is quite partial to beans, though. If someone called him a "beaner" directly, he'd think it was a compliment.

I don't know if you are in the area yet or not. If you have any specific questions or want to have additional discussion, I'm happy to continue. If you would like to bring your family to meet our family, we could arrange that. Also, if you would like to bring your kids to our church, I know that they would be welcome.

Lauriem

Lauriem is right, I don't think there is anything to worry about in that area. Moscow is a college town, which brings a lot of different people to that area.
