We are looking at being up there the first week of June, checking out NID from Bonner's Ferry down to Moscow(emphasis currently on the Sandpoint/Priest Lake area). The La Quinta in Sandpoint gets good reviews, but older reviews mention truck noise? Did the new bypass affect this positively? Are there better alternatives in the $100/night range? Thanks for any light you guys can shed.

90% of the trucks are on the bypass now. La Quinta is fine.

I thought that might be the case. Thanks much. We can hardly wait to get out there and check out your fine state.

Default Holiday Inn Express

I recently stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in Ponderay. It was clean and they provide a decent breakfast. It is immediately next door to a restaurant called Lou's. The food and service was good.

We stayed at LaQuinta there a two years ago and it was very nice. Would recommend it.

La Quinta is centrally located, and a nice place. I was going to recommend the Best Western Edgewater, but I just checked their prices for June, and they have doubled since we stayed there in 2009 . Still, if you can afford a couple of days at the Edgewater, I'd highly recommend it. It's on Lake Pend Oreille, and in June you'll get views across the lake with the Green Monarchs and the Cabinets with snow still on their peaks.

When we stay in town, we usually stay at the HoJo's in Ponderay. Clean, and they're dog friendly. Day's Inn is also a good alternative. We haven't tried the Holiday Inn Express yet. I would absolutely recommend Lou's, one of NID's success stories. A small mom-and-pop restaurant in Hope that became so popular that they've expanded to Ponderay.

If you're worried about not getting a hotel in Sandpoint itself, it is only an issue if you'd like to walk out of your hotel to everywhere in town. Ponderay is less than 15 minutes away by car.

Thanks for all the info, guys. We'll likely get a room at the La Quinta, all the reviews, including those here, seem positive. I suspect the main problem with this trip will be forcing ourselves to go back to Missouri for a while when it's time to go home...

We stayed at La Quinta a month ago... good place. You might have seen my review titled "“La Quinta expectations... fulfilled.”

btw, I'm a MO boy originally.

I liked the LaQuinta, parking can be a bit difficult if you have a large truck or trailer rig.
