VelvetSky, if you had hail of any size, and your house has a shingle roof, you might want to check the shingles for hail damage. The roof may or may not be damaged, but it doesn't hurt to check it out. Hail damage will be little spots where the gravel(the little "rocks" that give your shingles their color) has been knocked off to expose the underlying asphalt substrate. This damage will not likely cause a leak right now, but will take years off the lifespan of your roof. Homeowners insurance usually covers hail damage to roofs(no wonder insurance is so high these days...). You will need to get up there and look at it up close to see the damage, unless it is really bad. I am a contractor, currently in SW MO, so I see hail damaged roofs quite often.

On my recent visit to NID I noted that a large percentage of houses actually had metal roofs, even homes that seemed poorly maintained. I would imagine this is to protect from snow and ice, but it has the added bonus of being very resilient against hail as well.
