A couple months ago i was hearing alot of talk about building War Eagle Speedway out in Elmore County, with the eventual goal of luring a nascar race. The last I heard the country commsion was going to vote on whether or not to approve it's building. I really don't like nascar at all, but i think that it would be good for the economy of Mountain Home. I also think it is very possible to build a stadium that holds 100 k for a nascar event, since they would only have one a year and people from SLC to Portland would travel in to see the race. you only need to sell out once a year to pay for it, the minor races wouldn't be sellouts obviously, but I think the one huge event a year would make up for it. I just haven't heard anything about it lately.

I heard that it went through, but haven't heard anything since. It sure would bring some jobs to the area.

With nascar racing, comes possibly other types of racing. Maybe IRL, sport bikes, etc. They could even do a 1/4 mile drag strip like here at the California speedway, if the facility is big enough.

Default Go War Eagle!!

I would love to see NASCAR come. I promise to by at least four tickets every year. I used to live near Sears Point (Infinion Raceway to you new fans) we went all the time, and you are right, it did bring in a lot of green!
They did have all the above including Drags, IRL and Superbike to name only a few.
If you build it they will come....

Any update on the track? Does anyone know if NASCAR is interested in racing in Idaho? I know that Washington voted them down last year so a Northwest race in Idaho would make sense.

If it goes through that is great. My personal opinion is that this is a pie in the sky project similar to Sweetwater Junction in Nampa. I am not sure the number of people they plan to draw. If it is anything similar to other NASCAR tracks I just don't see how that is possible. Many seat over 100,000, which is 1/6th of the Metro's population. Add high gas prices and Boise's relative remoteness...I just don't see it working.
