Living in SW OK for the last 19+ years, I can concur that it is hot here. We have already had 2 days at 104 and another 3 of over 100 and this is a cool summertime so far. Usually by this time, we are at 3 weeks or more at 100. Yes, Boise is too hot for me also. Most of the time when someone leaves their home to move to another place, it is for economic reasons. Nothing the OP said in his post will change my mind about considering NID as a place to live. The fact that I'm retired and do not require a job when I move just makes it a little easier for me to move to any place that I can afford to live.
The lowest wages thing is a valid concern. However, cost of living is very low here, despite the article to the contrary. My husband and I both work office type jobs, and combined, we make around $60k per year. That seems pretty low until you consider that we spend less than $25k a year. That includes a house payment every month on a 2 bdrm (+ office) townhouse that was new when we bought it 11 years ago. Once we pay off the townhouse, our expenditures will drop to less than $16k a year (before adjusting for inflation). Now granted that is only for 2 of us, but we don't live out in the sticks, we live 1 mile north of Boise Towne Square, right in the heart of West Boise.
If you choose to have a bunch of kids, then yes, you will have trouble supporting the entire family on one income, but that is true everywhere these days, not just in Idaho.
Maybe, the poster got lost 104 doesn't happen in my part, 90 degrees for a week or two, has everyone wishing for snow.
