Smoke Forecasts for Western Canada
One of the forest firefighters we know said the the fires in Canada are contributing a lot to our air issues up here in Bonners. It's been like this for days, and he said it could persist for several weeks, even if it rains.

OP: The fires can be 1000 miles away and depending on wind speed and direction, we could be in a thick cloud of smoke. This is pretty much standard stuff in the summer. Some summers it's worse than others, but you can pretty much be guaranteed to have some nasty smoky days in this area.

They used to. It was never a big issue-they burned on days when the smoke cleared out pretty quickly. I think I saw one day in 20 years where the wind shifted and smoke settled around CDA. AFAIK that's all past now on the Rathdrum Prairie, I haven't seen them burn in several years. THe only place they burn now is down by Worly on the res. The tribes aren't held to the standards everyone else is.
