Sandpointian, I'm so glad that you started this conversation. I have thought about many of these things as we've looked into moving out of Atlanta and back out west and live near/in the mountains. We love the idea of CDA, its not too big (we don't want to trade one big city for another), but as much as we love the idea of N ID, employment is a very real issue. We'd be there by now if jobs were more plentiful and paid better. So yes, we see how CDA would benefit with better employment opportunities and some true foresight into planning and managing this growth that is happening, and into encouraging business relocation, etc. We have seen first hand how important planning is for a city. The Atlanta metro area has several counties that were among the top 10 fastest growing counties for years. And poor planning has taken its toll: traffic, overbuilding homes, etc. And as someone who has children, with the oldest now in high school, I think about access to colleges, employment, etc. There are tradeoffs moving from here to N ID, as there is with anything, it saddens me to think that my children will have to move away not that long after we get there because there simply isn't anything there for them. As much as I hate the heat in the south et al, at least living near a city of 6 million people there are opportunities for them as they start off on their own lives. So while the retirement community is important, so is our youth. All of this needs to be taken into account to have a vibrant, thriving community.

Glad to see things are going well and employment is increasing!

I'm sure the new building will increase local employment.

How do you feel about the building design?

Thanks for posting, I was surprised by the other articles that so much is linked to Spokane.

I tried so hard to be the agent on the building, but they chose a c21 agent because the broker is co financing the project (my office is a block away and I am their core demographic, but whatever). I think it is going to be great when it goes it. We are too flat and these new buildings help drive down the cost of some homes around it that are inflated due to their view.

There are a lot of great things coming down the pipe, we just have to get younger, more involved people in to make the changes we need.

I really like the growing skyline with the highrise buildings Coeur d'Alene has. The skyline would look sweeter with a half dozen more 15 floor + towers downtown.

It won't take long for more casinos to move in to change the skyline to make it look more like Lake Tahoe.

I had been watching the home sales in CDA but now understand why there are so many. Maybe people want to leave before the construction starts.

What are you talking about? There are no casinos except on indian reservations. There are a lot of home sales in CDA because people are moving here, and 72% of locals who sell their home rebuy in kootenai county.

I respect your viewpoint, TohobitPeak, but, on the other hand, whenever we go to downtown CDA, the Daddy Lion and I never fail to comment on how ugly and out of place the highrises look. A different perspective, I suppose.

I could be wrong, but I was hoping he just forgot to add the sarcasm emoticon.

I agree. I think the resort looks oddly out of place there as well.
