I need to find out if you need building permits and how expensive are they in and around the cdl, hayden lake area. Also when you buy a house already built, do you have to pay a sales tax on it? I currently live in the kalispell, mt area and outside the city limits I think you only need permits for the septic and the electrical stuff. We might have to move because of a new job and was trying to figure out how much it would cost to build in northwestern id. So if anyone has a good idea it would be real helpful... thanks

Any where in kootenai county you need to get permits for plumbing building electrical and basically any time you start moving dirt here. You better have a permit. If you build in hayden be carefull the inspector there is a pain!! We have had a lot of guys thinking that they did not need permits and found out otherwise. I don't think that you will have to pay sales tax. You will need to call the county and ask them what the prices for permits are it's a new year and I am sure the prices have changed!! The number for kootenai co planning is 208-446-1040. The hayden number is 208-772-4411 Also hayden lake is a seperate city from hayden so the hayden lake number is 208-772-2161. I hope this helps you out. I am sure that things have changed this year I have not gotten my new building code book yet this year. So it's best to ask the source and give them the details. Also you should ask how long it will take to get your plans approved. Last year it took over three months to get your plans approved so ya gotta start early....

Hi Glacier! Hope to have you as a new neighbor soon!

Regarding building permits, I only know that we got an exemption for building our barn, and what used to be $200 was -0- when we built it in 2003. I don't know about now.

As for building costs, if you've located land, and plan to have a builder build, it will be approx. $125 sf. If you do a lot of the work, it will be less.

I am an accountant, and have clients that are contractors. Everyone is SUPER busy, and you'd need to schedule them well in advance! I called one I've used before in Feb last year (for some remodeling), and he was booked until August!!!

Hope this helps!
