I think it's more like people are getting tired of people on bikes thinking they own the road. You are most likely very polite knowing you are not the one with full road access. Many are rude and will not move over for a car to pass them safely.

The bold is funny, I hear people say, "the bicyclist must be from California"

Try riding in the mountains and off beaten paths that cars don't travel daily to work. You will encounter much happier people.
