Are loons found in Idaho? (The birds I mean not crazy people lol) And if so where are they found and have you seen them yourself? Thanks.

No loons in Idaho that I'm aware of. They don't tend to go any further south than central Canada, except in the winter when they head down the west coast, staying near the water.

Loons go hundreds of miles south of Canada, it's the state bird of Minnesota. I've taken pictures of common Loons in May at the Cedar Creek Reservoir (also known as Roseworth Reservoir) in southern Idaho.

Idaho Fish & Game lists several sites that have loons, mainly in the north. http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/ifwis/c...mon%20Loon.pdf

I was speaking generally in terms of the pacific & inland northwest. They certainly congregate around the Great Lakes. Supposedly they even winter (in coastal areas) as far south as California & Mexico on the West coast and Florida on the East coast.

This is the first I've heard of them being in Idaho--had no idea loons (the bird variety) were found around St. Maries. That's pretty cool! Nothing even close to Idaho showed up on any of the range maps I looked at for five different species of loon before posting.
