They really loved it, and even though we don't live up there anymore I always bring a carrot cake to our local fire station every Thanksgiving.

Here's the video if you want to see it...

It was so scary, but neighbors really came together. We lived among some amazing people!

(Btw, our fire was started by an arsonist, and they actually caught the guy!)

KAMIAH, ID - While a few roads, trails, and campgrounds remain closed, all large area closures due to wildland fire activity have been lifted on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. Officials say while areas have opened to public access, fire managers continue to caution visitors to be vigilant and watch for falling snags and other debris on roadways, trails, and all forest lands. Firefighters are still working in the area and visitors should expect increased traffic and large equipment on forest roads.

From Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests:
Airstrips: All backcountry airstrips are now open.

Campgrounds: While most campgrounds remain open, some are beginning to close for the season and water systems are being winterized and shut down Please contact your local Forest Service office for the best information.

Due to public safety concerns associated with fire activity and traffic associated with firefighting and rehabilitation efforts, the following closures remain in effect:

North Zone
Palouse Ranger District – (208) 875-1131
No fire closures in affect

North Fork Ranger District – (208) 476-4541
Trail Closures

Selway Falls Campground including any area on or adjacent to road 443 – Beginning at the Selway Bridge and the junction with the Selway River Road 223 to the junction of Indian Hill Road 290. The closure is for public safety due to hazard trees created by the Wash Fire.

Lochsa-Powell Ranger Districts – Lochsa: (208) 926-4274; Powell: (208) 942-3113

Trail Closures
The following trails remain closed in their entirety: Army Mule 60, Saturday Ridge 89, Saturday Creek 82, Pouliot 30, Wind Lakes 24, Tom Beal Creek 7, Friday Pass 45, and Pedro Ridge 917. Road Closures

Additional restrictions and closures have been enacted for a variety of reasons including road maintenance, log hauling, etc.

Additional information and new restrictions are posted at Forest Service
notices.

Default Post Fires

KAMIAH, ID - The US Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District deployed a four-member team of technical experts early this week to assess post-wildfire conditions and associated flood risks in Clearwater and Idaho counties. In anticipation of this increased risk to lives and property, the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security requested the Corps to provide Advance Measures technical assistance to identify potential mitigation measures.
Corps headquarters approved and funded the request for support under Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies authority. The cost for technical assistance provided under an Advance Measures request is covered by federal funding.
Tens of thousands of acres of steep mountainsides and watersheds were burned by the Municipal and Clearwater Complexes, and other fires, destroying the vegetation cover. Officials say the charred ground cannot easily absorb rainwater, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides.
Experts in hydrology, sedimentation, geology (as applied to landslides), and engineering are investigating the post-fire conditions and will provide risk assessments to county governments. They are working with other federal, state, and local agencies - including the US Forest Service, US Geological Survey, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Idaho Department of Water Resources, and county officials.
The Corps team will identify potential landslide or debris-flow areas; assess risk to life and improved property (including life safety); prepare documentation (maps and reports) to communicate this risk to the county and local governments; and identify potential mitigation options, up to and including potential sites for direct assistance under Advance Measures.
From USACE:
The Corps’ coordination with other agencies includes gathering geographic information systems (GIS) data and other documentation generated during the initial post-fire recovery phase that may be useful to the Advance Measures technical support team and non-federal emergency managers.
Following the technical team’s assessment, the state may decide to submit another Advance Measures request for direct assistance from the Corps to implement potential flood-risk mitigation actions. The cost for direct-assistance actions under an Advance Measures request may be shared, depending upon the type of proposed mitigation action.
The Corps has authority to perform Advance Measures prior to flooding or flood fighting activities to protect against loss of life and significant damages to urban areas and/or public facilities due to an imminent threat of unusual flooding. Advance Measures assistance may be taken prior to a flood, a hurricane or coastal storm, or a storm on an inland body of water, or a closed basin flood.
The Corps works with states, counties and other public entities to provide necessary resources and information. The Corps does not have authority to provide disaster assistance directly to individuals. Individuals and business owners are encouraged to contact local emergency management agencies to ensure they understand flood risk in their areas, and how to prepare, respond to and recover from a flood.
For more information about the Corps’ Emergency Management Assistance programs, check out the Walla Walla District’s Web site at Walla Walla District Flood Assistance Mission .
