My family recently moved to Meridian, Idaho based on a friend's recommendation.
I visited ID and I liked it. It's Calm, not over crowded, newly built home/apartment and just things seem to be clean.

A little background on me: I'm 24, single, and a recent college graduate with Bachelor in Computer Science. I live & work in Connecticut & been living here for the past 10 years, I'm not big in partying or anything so I wouldn't miss the vibe of let say NY being an hour away. But I enjoy nature activities. What I like most of ID when I visited was home/apartment.
I want to be able to spend let say about 550- $700 & still get a decent place for a single young man to live. I really love having a nice apartment in good neighborhood that very high on the LIST.

I also want a place with open minded people as I'm a man of color, but don't mind the population ratio & all the label people count.

About ID, I'm concerned about ID low pay as I been applying for job up there.

I want to live close to my family, at lease 0 to 10 hours away from Meridian I wouldn't mind but the certainly I want to find a decent job, nice housing, and open minded, welcoming community.

Any suggestion as to what State: Utah? ID? CO? or any other state?

thanks all,

I take it that you're looking for a computer science job.
It all depends on your skill level, of course, but before you drop the idea of living in Idaho, I suggest you look closer at what's in Boise, Idaho Falls, and Pocatello, all cities where there's advanced technology going on in several different venues.
I.F. is the home for the State Advanced Tech Center, a state-run outfit that shares tech with a lot of places in and out of the state boundaries. It's also the ome of the Idaho National Lab, the nation's leading materials testing lab.

After that, Salt Lake City is a large hi-tech center and home of many computer products, but while there are probably a lot of jobs, there's also a lot of competition there for them.

You may also want to do some exploring in the hi-tech agricultural stuff that's going on, as there's a lot of it happening here on the farms statewide.

All of the above are within your travel time limits. When it comes to outdoor activities, throw a dart at a map. They abound everywhere here.

As to your race, you wouldn't have any problems with any city on the list. Both Idaho and Utah are more tolerant than lots of folks think, especially in the larger cities.

What Banjo said, I would encourage the outskirts of Boise, or if you want to be at the edge, outskirts of portland may not be a bad idea. Welcome!
