I know we've already discussed this issue at length. Why are we doing it again?

This thread was deleted once because this topic almost immediately becomes a national/global debate and that had happened.

So as we discuss the problem of militants infiltrating the ranks of refugees, please make sure that we don't immediately turn it into a national/global discussion/debate which does not belong in the Idaho subforum.

Only if they can be vetted properly, and currently it doesn't seem that's possible.

Clearly you missed the two day old post on exactly the same topic that was discussed just after the events in Paris over the weekend. As Sage mentioned, that post was deleted.

Thank you for explaining the reason for the reboot. However, I'm not sure how to accomplish what you're after by keeping the context within Idaho. Syrian refugees are from outside of Idaho, and they are currently a worldwide issue. The events in Paris are outside of Idaho, and are currently a worldwide issue.

It seems like a very fine needle we're trying to thread, because the problem at hand is global in nature. I'll take my lead from other more experienced posters before attempting to contribute to this topic again.

From the Idaho State Joural

Three percent group protests CSI refugee placement center in Twin Falls
By Cydney McFarland Oct 20, 2015

TWIN FALLS — Flanked by gun-toting men in flak jackets, close to 200 people marched to the College of Southern Idaho to protest the school’s refugee placement center on Sunday afternoon. The march was organized by the Three Percent of Idaho, one of a few groups that have recently been vocal about shutting down CSI’s refugee center.

“We’re not against refugees or helping people,” said Brandon Curtiss, the president of the Three Percent. “However there have been issues, like the Boise bomber who was placed through the program, that shows that there are problems with the program.”

The protest was not only against the refugee center at CSI, but also to advocate for H.R. 3314 — the Resettlement Accountability National Security Act of 2015.

The Act would suspend the admission of refugees until Congress passes a joint resolution that gives the Department of Homeland Security authority to admit refugees and requires the Government Accountability Office to submit a report to Congress on refugees who receive any government assistance.

It's a global situation that affects Idaho directly.

This state was very fortunate in that it stopped an attack once, I'm hoping it doesn't have to be that fortunate again.

Is there a limit?

Because how do you limit discussion of this issue to just Idaho? This thread will only bring out xenophobia and ignorance.

Look, it's a very germane topic. It's important to discuss. But it should be discussed with some nuance, and you're just not going to get that without going far beyond the scope that Sage is (rightfully) limiting.
