I just realized this morning there may be some interesting things that could come from the eclipse and traffic.

There was a lot of data that was collected all along the eclipse's path across the United States.

Essentially, the event was a timed event; if you didn't get there in time to see it you missed it, and once it was over, that was all there was, so you went back home. The traffic jams were all voluntary, and the event was optional. If you didn't want the bother, you didn't have to participate.

But how the traffic flowed in and out could prove to be very valuable in planning for any mass evacuation for any reason- a flash fire, a flood, a tornado, earthquake- they are all timed events too. Getting out of them, or going into them, is very important.

People found their own ways to get around bottlenecks, and were able to keep moving along at a good steady pace.

In a real emergency, all these little solutions they found could be very useful when a city or an area must evacuate as fast as possible and time is of the essence. Or when it is just as vital to move into an location quickly.

Stanley (over 2 minutes of totality) businesses were hurt due to low number of people there for eclipse. Much lower than expected.

I had a good view from 30K feet over Montana on our flight to Boston. The pilot got the ok to change course so both sides of the plane could see it. It was not quite full for us but better than it would have been in North Idaho.

Had a great time Thanks so much for coming!! See you Friday.
We left Weier at 330. I woke up at 7 as the busses turned onto 84

Only took less than 2 hours from BSU to Weiser High School

Definitely worth it. The best 2 minutes of my life other than seeing my children and grand children for the first time

I guess coming in was not as bad as going out. I was still up in Midvale and did not even venture the few houses down to the highway to take a look. Good to hear people are safely home and enjoyed the adventure.

I was rather surprised at how awesome it really was. If Tango and wife and friend had not come I probably would not paid much attention. SO Thankful they did come. I think we all had a really great time. Looking forward to seeing all of them again. I am sure I will.

Very interesting article blueskywalker. I also read through the following article on that link. Took me back to my days of living over there. I knew Brett Wolly.

Honestly I had such a great day because wonderful people from this forum came to share this experience with me. THIS will be forever burned in my memory. Met new friends. The whole experience was aw-inspiring. I wish there had been a way to capture the growing darkness then coming light again. I will go google searching to see if some one some where has done this. As neat as it was you would have thought some one would have figured a way and not just still photos.

Excellent point, mike1003, it truly was a great event, and discussions here helped this Californian have a successful eclipse visit to Idaho. Thank you, c-d people!

By far, meeting shades_of_idaho IRL was a big highlight of our trip! A huge thank you shout out to her for her hospitality and friendship as we watched the eclipse together, the four of us -- she, a friend of mine from McCall, and my wife and I. What a special day, and week. We visited with shades 3x that week, and we also saw some fantastic Idaho sites during our week long road trip there. An eclipse and a trip to remember!

Oh and BTW, the deleted-by-volosong post above mike1003's #127 was for a spam post that I reported. volosong deleted the spam, and deleted my post saying, "Reported." What remains looks a bit odd.

I also had such a great day that day and smile at my Blessings jar every time I see the special sun glasses inside it. Was so good to meet all three of you. I do hope Idaho will be on your list to tour again or maybe a visit up to McCall friend. Always welcome and I even added a REAL twin bed to the guest room so have even extra space for sleepers. Room has been painted and totally done over. Imagine me doing another painting project before the brushes had even dried from painting the out side of my house. I am cray cray for sure. Remember you certified me so.
