so moving here wanting a paved road is an improvement? maybe not. calif. has plenty of paved rds. stay there. maybe i like to walk a dirt rd. most locals know to slow down and not dust me as they go by. the tone of "improvement" sounds like im to stupid to know whats better for me. do i really need a major shopping mall? or coffee/latte? nope. my coffe at a cafe or bar is just fine, and most ranch supply seems tobe enough. and dont start me on w-mart. its an American right to live where you want, i feel over population is a cancer that kills family values, loss of resourses, and lack of the real good life. its a tuff balance. if you think im wrong, look back at why your leaving CA.

Being content with living on a dirt road and raising chickens for a living is fine too. But it's not what the majority of people want in this day and age.
As pointed out to you a few times in this thread, I never mentioned the dirt roads, but yeah I do like them.

Do I own Idaho? Not the entire state, however by paying my taxes and by voting I own more than those who do not reside in Idaho.

In my opinion, paving roads, building more schools (not that it's happening, although the increase in population is!), hospitals and the like can be a bad thing when indeed it does begin to diminish the small town charm I was attracted to in the first place. If perhaps a person doesn't want to live on dirt roads than yes, they need to reside in a concrete jungle.

What I am noticing is that while housing prices are rising, by Idaho standards, and the cost of living overall is slowly climbing, the much needed facet for those two items is not rising and that is income.

Hello all...
I really wasn't going to post in this topic, however, it directly involves me. I cannot stay quiet any longer. I am a recent transplant from California to Idaho. I have been verbally attacked many times while replying to a question about where I am from. I have learned to keep quiet until people get to know me... It really is a sad situation. I have discovered that most of us Californians that are actually living here in ID, are getting the brunt of "rich" Californians (and many other rich people from other states as well) who just come to buy up land and rent properties for money. We feel that way about people who do that too. I did live in California and even owned a home there for many years. My family decided to come to Idaho because we wanted a better life for our children (no, I am not mormon!) and we were getting priced out of our own neighborhood. We are not "keep up with the jones' type people", our children were a minority in their own school (sometimes my kids' class time was used to teach some students in thier native language, not english!) and couldn't stand the crime anymore. We were actively involved in our city, which was better than most there in Cali., but still the influx of outside influences takes over. We sold our home there and moved to Meridian. We are not rich by any means. My husband works and I am working part-time. We do own a home here, by the grace of God, but it is not deluxe, nor huge, nor acres upon acres! Most of my neighbors are from CA and feel similarly to me. What is wrong with those Idahoans who are so rude and cruel to us. We really just want the same thing, when it comes down to it. I do agree, that if you are looking for "city life" and paved roads, etc., please move to those areas that provide that already... I understand that some of you are just tired of trying to adapt, but that is life. In my town in CA., I had to do the same thing for many, many, many years before deciding to move. Now, I am adapting to life here in Idaho. It is different and I like it! But it is different, slower and more community-family based than what I am used to. Please try to be kinder to us Californians just trying to give our families some of the best our country has to offer! We are still people with feelings...

Hi. I applaud you for speaking up and sharing your thoughts with us. It is a shame, that in your own country you have to be fearful to tell your neighbors where you used to live. Saying it even sounds absurd. We are all americans. Why don't we act like it and welcome new neighbors.
Another point. Reading one of the posts. How do you expect CA people to stop the influx of Mexicans and Asians?? We are powerless to do something like that. Are we expected to stand at the borders with shotguns and slingshots? It's up to the government to close the doors on immigration. It is never going to get less populated in this nation. You can not stop growth.
A question. Pardon my lack of knowledge, but what is a LDS church. I have never heard that said before.
A statement please. If any person wants to move to CA., being from Idaho, Oregon, or any other state; I welcome you with open arms. If you move into my condo area, I WILL walk up to you and shake your hand, and welcome you aboard. I have done that countless times, and will continue to welcome newcomers. I don't care what color you are, where you came from, and on and on. People are nervous when moving to a new location. Why treat them like sub-humans just because they have different colored license plates for God's sake. If you get an overbearing loudmouthed neighbor from CAL, ignore them. They'll get the idea. I am sorry if you have a neighbor like that. So do I. I don't speak to them. I don't mean to grandstand here, but all the hate on this subject upsets me. Live and let live. Best to you all, skitow

LDS stands for Latter Day Saints. More commonly known as the Mormon Church. There is a large population of LDS in idaho. So along with a large population of CA you also have the LDS. You can read about the concerns some folks have about LDS by doing a search at the top of the page...just type in LDS and you will find a lot of stuff.

By the way, I'm both LDS and a CA resident. The fact that idaho has so many mormons is a plus for me.

I am so sick and tired of people ragging on the people from CA that move into Idaho. They are moving here to get away from CA, to find the beauty that we all enjoy. They are police officers, judges, firemen, paramedics, business owners.... I could go on and on. They pay taxes just the same as we all do. They want to raise thier children somewhere safe, or they want to retire somewhere they can look out their window and see the beautiful mountains. If all the so-called "Native Idahoan's" would check into their geneology, they would find that they came from families that "transplanted" here from somewhere else. Frankly, the ONLY "Native Idahoans" are the Native Americans, they were here before anyone else. So Skitow, I say WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't mind the fact Californians are moving here to Idaho. They are not the only ones, we have people moving here from all over the country and foreign nations as well. The way I look at it is that the kind of people that move to Idaho are the kind of people that "Idaho" would want to have live and relocate here. Idaho is a beautiful secret and if somebody from California decides to move here then obviously they have a respect for the mountains, rivers, lakes, deserts, and everything else Idaho has to offer. I lived in Utah for a while and they groan about Californians moving there too. The difference in Utah is I always heard the Cali transplants talking about how weird they thought Utah was and they would always talk about maybe moving somewhere else. Here in Idaho I do not hear that. Instead the Californians I hear talk about their move say how much they love Idaho and are fascinated by all of the natural beauty and diversity in this state. A lot of them mention that they really like it here because the simpler and most important aspects of life still are very important here in Idaho ---like family life and integrity for instance.

I am a transplant from Cali as well. I have lived in Idaho for the past 15 yrs. From the day that I arrived I was treated very bad. What I found out is that most Idahoans assume that Cali ppl are from the big cities. I still to this day get ppl saying that I moved here to get away from the big city. I lived miles and miles away from any big city. I grew up at Matilija Dam & Casitas Dam, my dad is the dam tender and filtration specialist for Casitas Municipal Water District. Our nearest neighbor was at least a half mile away. My bros and I would go fishing every day after school and on the weekends I would get to ride my horse up to Nordhoff Peak in Ojai CA.

I didn't move to ID to get away from anything, I moved up hear cuz I married a Native Idahoan. I was horrified by the reactions that I got from ppl when I said that I was from Cali, even after 15 yrs I still get the same reactions. I haven't tried to change a thing in Idaho. I love the dirt roads, mountains and lakes here just not the attitude towards others. I can't stand the big cities or even the small ones and I hate the malls. I know of many Californians that feel the same way as I do and they moved up here to get away from the political bs that have involved Cali's forest and the passes that you have to get to go into them now.

The saddest day for me up here was when they tore down the lil block home on the corner of Sunnyside and Hitt in IF. That was my father and mother in law's very first home. Now it is a huge Chevron station plus who knows what, I haven't been there for about two yrs. I was in Island Park this past June and it made me sick to see all of the new huge homes that have gone in in two yrs. Not all of them are ppl from Cali most of them are from Poky and Boise.

There are many ppl in Idaho that have been wanting the changes that have happen but were unable to get that until the farmers sold off their land to developers and so on. So blame some of the farmers for selling out for a huge price and blame some of the Native Idahoans for wanting progress but don't blame Californians for all that has happen here. If we were that influential don't you think that we would have made all the same changes in Cali?

It sounds like you live in Idaho Falls which is a very nice area. But Eastern Idaho is practically a different world from the rest of the state especially the Boise area. Boise is so full of transplants, even from other areas of Idaho and I don't perceive that attitude here.
