RE: Idaho Falls/Pocatello. They are 50 miles apart and different. Pocatello is a bit warmer than IF both in winter and summer. Also less windy.

But back to the topic...

As I may have posted earlier, Moscow is home to the U of I, and Pullman is home to WSU. The universities really are on different levels in importance, but they provide a strong education-based economy for the area.

Moscow has more big box retailers, (again I think I already posted that, but the geography of the area allows for more large big box plots.)

Both are college towns, but WSU seems to be more of a power in their city than the U of I is in Moscow. I could be dead wrong on this, but just my gut talking here.

The weather is almost identical, the topography is somewhat dissimilar, as Pullman is built on seven hills, and Moscow is relatively flat, though not in total.

Good post.I'd like to add they are only 9 miles apart, so Moscow may have become the shopping center for both, while Pullman may have become the entertainment center for both.
They aren't rivals except in college sports.

When I attended the U of I 50 years ago, neither was as large as both are now, but that symbiotic relationship was quite strong way back then. The college kids in Pullman would go to Moscow to drink beer, as 20 was legal age in Idaho back then, and the Moscow kids would go to Pullman because that's where the best parties were.

Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington, are very similar in their relationship to each other. So is the relationship between Spokane and Coeur d'Alene

I didn't find the topography dissimilar; Moscow is just as hilly as Pullman, and neither is very flat. The Moscow campus just has gentler hills.

Great description and definitely University based.
