Interesting result on the dem side after huge Bernie win in ‘16, though that was a caucus. Shows weak Bernie support and a general electorate that wants someone who can beat Trump.

[mod note] Thread title changed from "Biden wins Idaho" to "Biden wins Idaho Democrat party primary" to more accurately reflect thread content. Partisan political discussion is frowned upon in the state forums, but this thread will continued as long as the talk is respectful of other posters, the political parties, and the candidates. The title was changed to avoid future "issues" in case Mr. Biden does not win the presidency in November and drop-in trolls see the thread title and make an appearance in the thread, with unpleasant results. Sleepy Joe beating Trump? If this happens I will be worrying about the mental status of the people in the State. At least those near around me aren't in that direction that's for sure.

It was a real surprise, considering Idaho Democrats voted Bernie 59% in 2016. Idaho was one of his strongest states 4 years ago.

Here's links with info I posted in the news thread. There is a link to an interactive map with county breakdowns.

The Idaho Primary results are in and as expected the state tilted more Blue than it has in years.
The total votes for all Republican candidates is 117,635 and the total votes for all Democratic candidates is 107,814.

Trump received 111,136 votes, and Biden and Sanders combined received 98,494 votes. Warren and Bloomberg received more votes than Weld and Walsh.

In Ada County, Biden and Sanders each received more votes than Trump. I'm still looking for the Boise city precincts results, but based on past elections the results will be a Democratic majority (Clinton won Boise in the last general election). A local Political Scientist confirms that Boise continues to become bluer.

Here in Bonner County voter turnout was predictably low at about 22%.

3,163 turned out to vote for Trump. There were 181 votes for other Republican candidates.

Biden received 1,274 votes vs. 1,126 for Sanders. There were 196 votes for other Democrat candidates, with Warren being a distant 3rd. I might have guessed that the local Democrats would have split more strongly for Sanders.

A smattering of votes for Constitutional party candidates.

No indication here that the outcome in November will be much different than it was in 2016.

Dave

Yes, Idaho will go Trump again. My OP was just a comment on how Biden did so much better than Bernie in 2020 compared to 2016, despite the format of the primary.

The Idaho Democratic party's decision to drop the caucus for a primary could have played a part in Bernie's loss. Those caucuses were often grueling, and only the most dedicated group of followers usually lasted long enough to win the caucus for their guy.

Bernie was their guy in 2016. But partly because so many others had to leave to go home and put their kids to bed or whatever. A caucus could begin at 7 pm and not end until 2 am sometimes.

It looks like the huge Super Tuesday win and knowing that super delegates will go Biden, let the air out the sails of Bernie & Co locally.

Yes, and Biden is apparently going to win Washington (as of this writing), though the delegates are split. So, in effect this week Bernie won only one State, North Dakota. Whoppee!!! He really needs to drop out, but Biden needs to be careful to not alienate his voters, in fact, should woo them. Don't know what that looks like, though.
