I live in Lewiston, Idaho, not far from Whitman Elementary School and yet, kids don't trick-or-treat in my neighborhood like they used to. My question is, where do kids treat-or-treat in the Lewiston/Clarkston area nowadays?

Probably at school/church/city sponsored functions. Steady decline in actual walkers over the last several years.

Parents dont want their kids out at night knocking on stranger homes, also some would confiscate all the candies they gather and trash them.
More homeowners would pretend they are not home.

Not in Idaho but Halloween is well here. Last year we quit counting at 50 and anticipate more this year.

I have no candy to dispense,I think I WILL pretend I am not home, but it means I have to turn off the light .
Can I just give each 25 cents?

In my neck of the woods in he Tampa Bay area of Florida we get a fair amount of kids out. Light porch has to be on and they start as soon as it gets dark. Most are from the area and know the neighborhood is safe. A huge block party in a neighborhood by me is very popular also. I always buy candy I like just in case I do not get many kids. No suckers or hard candy..

There are a few of us that don't participate in this pagan inspired event. Fortunately, we are also in a one dead end street of 55-+ folks, so we don't see any participants.

I'm too far out in the country and the houses are too far apart for kids to walk from house to house. I always buy the candy and have it available, just in case. There are new kids across the street, so maybe they will come over.

There was one of those trunk or treat things in a tiny local town that sounded like fun, but thousands of out of the area kids were trucked in so the next year, there were no volunteers to do it again.

Sometimes the stores downtown will be open and handing out candy and there are other organized events.

Locally, residents seem to really get into the holiday because I drive around town and see amazing and elaborate holiday decorations. I don't know if the kids are out going door to door, because I don't live in town so I don't see what is going on.

I always thought it had something to do with all those stories of razor blades and poisoned candies back in the 90s-00s. Otherwise, there's less communal spirit than in the past, people are glued to their screens, and I'm sure the economy has also forced people to tone things down a bit

10 years ago, I always got a lot of kids coming to my door.
Not so much anymore; it seems they've all grown up now, and there aren't as many youngsters in my neighborhood as there once were.

S.E. Idaho is still a place where Halloween trick or treating is a big deal. At least until 2020- Covid stopped it that year, and no one came in 2021 either.

I bought a big bag of candy yesterday hoping it had good juju and would bring the little kids back.

I loved track & treating when I was a child here, loved to take my own kids out when I was a young father, and love to hand out the candy now that I'm old and don't have little kids to go with any more.
