I was wondering if anyone on here or do you know of any one that raises German Shepherds (not long hair) around the Boise to Lewiston area? I am looking for a pure bred. Thanks for any help.

I don't know of anyone directly, have you looked up the GSD rescue? I'm sure there's got to be one in/around Boise.

Thanks, I am pretty picky about were it comes from. I would rather have one that the owners have both parents so, that I know its background. I have teenagers and I don't want a dog that might have been abused at this time. I already have one he is almost 2 I have had him since he was 4 months and I have an 11 year old. But, I do thank you for your help and if it was just me I would defiantly consider a rescue dog.

Then my next idea is to hit the vet clinics, they usually have postings about litters available and most often those who post are clients of the vet. Gives you a better edge that the parents and pups are watched over health wise.

If you google the GSD club of America, you should be able to find a national breed contact that can refer someone more local. The biggest thing I would want to make sure is that the breeder is doing OFA checks (hips). It is such a huge problem for the breed.

Thanks cleosmom & idahomama,
Actually, I do have a 11 year old Shepherd and she has been the best dog. She is actually helping my 1 1/2 yr old shepherd kind of more mothering him. I didn't have her tested an she is having problems but, she is a big 85 pound girl all muscle she walks a lot and I'm happy with her and she has been my best friend.
But, I do know what you are saying that's why I would like to see the parnets and there age sometimes you can tell. Thanks for both of your advice. Good Day!!!

Have you looked up breeders on the AKC site? I did that to find some Cockers and Boxers that were close by.

Thanks, for letting me know I purchased a puppy 3 days ago and get to pick him up in 2 weeks. Are you a breeder and how much are you asking?
