salmon seems to be pretty lax on writing speeding tickets, as long as you are stopping for pedestrians, and drive reasonably in town. But even if the locals get tickets here the fine attached to it is so cheap anyone can afford to pay.

Here in Montana I've heard, (I've a spotless driving record), that if you have out of state plates and you get caught speeding you have to cough up the fine right on the spot and pay the officer !

Right as you enter Pocatello on I-15, the speed limit changes from 75 to 65...you will almost always spot a cop somewhere in the next 2 miles in this stretch.

There may be more recent info concerning this thread, but not being familiar with communities and geographical locations, are there any speed traps in Southern ID? Any information would be quite helpful and appreciated.

Amen. That is a town that makes a living giving Cougs tickets. Not that a loyal Husky has that big a problem with Cougs getting tickets, but Colfax law enforcement is purely predatory. If I can't avoid the place, I creep through it at 2-3 mph below the limit. And if people behind me don't like that, they can cry me a river, because I am not going to get a ticket just so they can go a couple of mph faster before being caught themselves.

Thanks so much for the info. With the possibility of moving to the state in the future, this kind of knowledge never hurts. Have a non-messy spring!

Old thread, but still accurate. Best to stick to the speed limit through all the towns along 75.

Priest River is terrible for speed traps. I think they use tickets as their main source of revenue. Especially bad going north towards Priest Lake. The speed limit drops to 35 well outside of "town" and they love to set up in that fairly rural area. Other than that, North Idaho doesn't seem bad. Bonner county deputies are very decent, they have let me off several times when they had me dead to rights. ISP on the other hand are...well, rhymes with cricks. They are all over '95 north of CDA, especially in the bogus "construction zone" areas with reduced speeds.
