Yes!
Be very careful when crossing the state line into Idaho from Nevada on US 93. There is 60 miles of nothing between Jackpot and Twin Falls, and the road is open with light traffic and good visibility.

It's very easy to speed on it, and a natural speed trap for any bored cop.
I once had one follow me the entire distance, but I spotted his radar gun before he got me, set my cruise control at exactly 60, the limit at the time, and never touched the gas pedal. They will usually give it up when they know they were spotted, but not this guy.

Nevada is much looser in speed enforcement, so a driver can blow through Jackpot going just over the limit and not realize how close the Idaho border is. That's what I did, but he must have looked away just as I spotted him. He was lurking very close to the state line.

The highway itself has a couple of treacherous spots. The owner of Cactus Pete's, the largest casino in Jackpot, lived in Twin and commuted to the casino driving a Corvette. He lost control on one of the few turns, and became a quadriplegic in the crash.

I did some work for Cactus Pete's a long time back, and he still ran the company. He needed 4 assistants 24 hours a day, and he was notorious for suddenly falling asleep while leading company meetings. His staff would stop talking in mid-sentence, and then would just sit there and wait in silence until he woke up. As soon as he awoke, he would pick things back up exactly where he had left off 45 to 90 minutes earlier.

He also ran on a 24 hour schedule this way, so he would call his staff at any hour of the day or night to speak to them. Needless to say, the turnover in his managerial staff was huge; he paid extremely well, but no one could ever keep up with his way of operating for very long. The only people who did were his personal assistants, who cared for all his physical needs. He had a total staff of 24 who rotated on a 24 hour shift basis.

The only mobility he had left was moving his head and everything connected to it. He could speak, eat, drink, see and hear, and that was it. Nothing else was mobile. He had been the owner/CEO for over 20 years that way when I worked for him as an independent contractor. He was an amazing guy, and was demanding, but not hard to work for. He knew his profession very well.

Jackpot didn't even exist until 1954.
That was the year Idaho outlawed slot machines. "Cactus" Pete Persanti, a large Idaho slot machine owner/operator, built a log cabin less than a mile over the Nevada line on a piece of very cheap land, called it Cactus Pete's Desert Lodge, and never skipped a beat. He made more money in Nevada with his slots than he made in Idaho. Others soon followed him.

Almost everyone who works there lives in Idaho, but the town has about 1500 residents now. It has a school, an air port, a golf course, but no cemetery. No churches (that I know of), but there is a city hall.

Because Idahoans are the town's source of revenue, Jackpot is the only city in Nevada that is on Mountain Standard Time. The rest of the state is on Pacific Standard. Jackpot is an hour behind to accommodate the Idahoans.

The city put this out to slow people down to the speed limit hopefully. Some one came along and did this to it. Sheese only in Midvale. I SWEAR this is right out front of my house.

I haven't read through all the replies (so forgive me if this has been said): Have lived in many states, but only speeding tickets I have received were these 3: 1) Coming back in to Idaho from Montana on I-15 2) Coming back in to Idaho from Nevada after leaving Jackpot 3) In American Falls where the default speed limit is 20 if not posted (I am used to default speed limit being 25 and was going 27). Last, regarding I-15: You can drive past some towns going the 80 mph speed limit (Blackfoot comes to mind), but you must slow to 65 when passing others (Pocatello comes to mind). Highway Patrol hang out in the median around Pocatello a lot (presumably to "get" folks who are zoned out with their cruise control and music on ).
