We are both 35 and have 3 kids under 8. We like Boise, but wonder if it is a great place. We know wages are low, but I do my own business. I really like Eagle. Has anyone moved from Portland to Eagle? Likes and dislikes? THanks.

Eagle appears to be essentially a higher end suburb of Boise. Very nice, but much more expensive for housing than it should be. Most events, shopping etc. are in Boise.

We relocated to Boise last year and had considered Portland as well. As a matter of fact, we may still move there one of these years. Why are you considering leaving Portland? I like the proximity to the coast coming from the southeast coast myself.

I have always had the understanding that wages in Portland are pretty low and that Oregon generally has a less than desirable economy over all.
There is a large number of people who have moved to Boise from Portland and Seattle and the ones I know really enjoy Boise and mention how Portland and Seattle have gotten too large and crime, drugs, etc. is really an issue because there is so much poverty in both of those cities.

If you're looking for a more suburban, slower paced environment, and don't need the bigger city cultural opportunities that Portland offers, Eagle is the better choice.

Unless you need to be by the coast, and prefer cloudy, cooler days to the constant sunshine and hotter summers/colder winters (though still pleasant), go Eagle.
