After a few years of debating whether or not to head back to the midwest (both our familes are in the SD / MN area), Cindy and I have decided to remain Idahoans. Tonight we reached an agreement to purchase our first house. I always winced at the idea of telling people I live in Chubbuck, but now it's going to be a reality. What a horrible name. I mean it's a very nice area, and at this point it's pretty much part of Pocatello, but good heavens, couldn't they have come up with a better name? Oh well, we are extremely excited to have permanent roots.

Well, if anyone makes their way over to Independence, you will likely see me working on the yard or in the garage on my car, the bronco, or the 4runner. Here's a quick pic:

Hi Nsomniac66,

Congratulations. What a beautiful home! Roots are good, even in a town with a strange name. Folks in Pocatello often refer to their town as "Pokey". Does that mean that those living in Chubbuck call their town "Chubby"?

Only kidding. Actually, it could be worse. How tiny is Small, Idaho? Just how cold does it get in Chilly, Idaho? And, how is the attitude of folks who live in Moody, Idaho? Some of the other unusual names of towns in Idaho include: Atomic City, Bliss, Bone, Crouch, Dingle, Gay, Gross, Hope, Mace, Ozone, Riddle, Santa, Slickpoo, Squirrel, Sweet, and Yellowjacket.

When you consider other places, Chubbuck ain't that bad. Your home is great looking. That's the important thing. Again, congratulations!

I'm of the mind that everything happens for a reason, so I think you're supposed to remain Idahoans

I hear you about oddball names, for example the buffet here in IF; Chuck-A-Rama. I mean seriously!

Congrats on the home it's beautiful.

Nice house. And Congrats, I envy you.

Is that an antenna on your roof? Don't you have to switch to digital by some date or other....death to American freedom, err I mean free TV.

I thought that you needed an antenna on your house to take advantage of the digital conversion (with the requisite conversion box)?

It's an enormous antenna, but it will be gone the day after we close. It's such an eyesore, and I get DirecTV with New York feeds anyway.
