It's probably a dumb question, but hows are the building contractor prospects in the Lewiston/Moscow area? The cost of living is about half as much there compared to where I live.So I'm sure the pay scale is much less. The standard of living has to be better than where I am at though.

Yellowfin, are you a general contractor, sub, or construction worker? Not that I can help much, but a bit more focus might help others answer your question. Building has been hit hard here, but perhaps not as much as in some parts of the country.

Maybe I'm not getting a response because people think I'm in CA.I've been in Kona Hawaii most of my life.I'm here now.The cost of living here is insane, the schools are amoung the worst, and the state is trying to severely restrict gun ownership.I've been to many places in Idaho and honestly I love it all.

Yellowfin, your locale has nothing to do with few replies. Myself I'm in SE Idaho so I'm not clear on how things are doing in the other areas.

I know some things have slowed here, but not at a standstill.

Yellowfin, this certainly isn't the best time to start a construction business, construction has been slow. Having said that, I have some friends and "friends of friends" in the construction business, most are making a go at it even now. They are doing more remodels, additions and decks now as opposed to new construction. A couple big buiders did go under, but they had a lot of money tied up in spec homes.

I understand that Hawaii is pretty far left and anti-gun rights, I can understand wanting to get out. Are you still finding good business there? If so, it might be a good idea to stick it out a little longer until business picks up around here. If it's bad there, I don't see any reason not to make the jump. Someone with the drive to make it as a contractor can find a way to get by most any time, and you'll be well situated when things do pick up.

If you have a bit of a nest egg to hold you over for a while after making the move you'll be in a lot better shape.
