My wife and I are trying to move to the CDA area. However, it's difficult to find a place that allows pets. We have a 5 year old yellow lab that is complicating our move. We were wondering if there is any place up there that is pet friendly. Thanks for any and all input.

My best suggestion is to contact a local humane society, pet shop and ask if they know of any realtors. I know down here in SE Idaho I know of one who does rent out some of her properties to pet owners.

Default thanks

Thats a good idea. I haven't thought of a pet shop or humane society. I had thought of calling a vet but I always kept forgeting. Instead I just kept going throught the ads and looked to see if they took pets or not.

What about Dangerous Pets listings and prohibitions? We have a German Shepherd, will we have a hard time finding housing??

I've seen GSDs, Rotts and Dobes here in SE Idaho, I'm thinking your main concern will be with your homeowners insurance.

Question How confident are you?

I've never had exactly the problem you are facing. however, we have traveled extensively with our various dogs for over 30 years. During that time we have also stayed in many hotels that had "no pets" policies. We came to see the problem through the hotel owners eyes. To put it simply, they're worried about damage to their business. That can be either property damage, or, problems due to dogs disturbing other hotel guests. (You can see how this could be the same concern of a rental property owner.) Understanding those concerns allowed us to negotiate with those owners. We always had very well trained dogs... not bragging, dogs are my business. As a result we felt confident enough to offer a large damage deposit and have the hotel manager inspect the room before we checked out. That usually worked. We also said that we would leave immediately if our pets disturbed another hotel guest. We never lost a deposit nor had to leave early.

If you are confident in your shepherd, you might try our technique. It couldn't hurt. Best of luck to you!

What kind of place are you looking for? You're obviously looking to rent...right? Would you like an apartment or house?

Around here, we had a hard time finding someone who would accept us and our pet, and we have a Blue Heeler. They are usually pretty strict on a weight limit of 40 lbs or so, and you will have to pay an additional pet deposit and some places even require extra money per month to rent from them. I live in Hayden (which is practically Coeur d'Alene) so if you need help finding a place, just let me know!
