Here's an update on the Sand Creek Bypass in Sandpoint--we should be able to use part of it by this summer already!
Traffic could be on bypass by year

We had a great day yesterday. The wife and I took the motorcycles out Bunco road, had lunch at the Happy Hermit, and went out to Whisky Rock campground. Beautiful country, I should have some pic to post tonight. She did great, first day on dirt with the bike.

Good job getting your wife out on a bike like that. I can't get my wife out of first gear. She crashed years ago racing my little brother and hasn't been out of first gear since.

Default Tell us where to go, Front Porchers

Hey, all.

I've been reading your posts, looking at your pictures, and drooling over my keyboard for a long time. But in ten days, we will be there, staying at a friend's place in Hope.

So, what shouldn't we miss?

Hi everyone, what a great thread! Love the front porch. It's really encouraging to read these posts and see the beautiful pics, and read how much you all love NID. We want to move there--have for some time--but it's going to depend on whether or not we can still have our business there (we sell used o.b.'s, parts, just about anything boat-related). After being self-employed for several years, hubby doesn't exactly relish the thought of working for someone else! lol Well, he does also work p.t. for a local marina/boat dealer, selling boats and also as a buyer---but that's more as an independent contractor sort of thing, and whatever days/hours he chooses. Besides the office work and most of the shipping for our biz, I work p.t. at Costco, but it's very p.t.!

We were thinking of the general CDA area, not only due to the nature of our biz but also because hubby's spent time there and loved it, so he's familiar with the area somewhat. But that doesn't mean we'd rule out moving near one of the other lakes--my gosh, they seem huge to us! Does anyone have any suggestions?

I also love what I'm reading about Kellogg, but that seems to be a bit far from all that lovely water and boating....still, it's tempting......

Hi LionFamily, so it's finally happening! Make sure you have lunch or dinner at the Floating Restaurant in Hope. Well, that's pretty unavoidable once you're in Hope! You can also drive over to Clark Fork and eat at the Squeeze Inn--it looks funky, but they serve great food. Once you're in CF, drive to the Montana border and take a look at the Cabinet Gorge Dam. And imagine that during the last ice age the Missoula Ice Dam was right there, and gave way, and sent all of Glacial Lake Missoula toward the Columbia River. You can stop at the viewpoint with signs on 200 just west of Hope and see the whole story. Makes you not wish for another ice age!
If you want to drive into Montana, go all the way to Highway 56 at Noxon along 200, and go north along the Bull River. You'll be traveling between two sections of the Cabinet Mt. Wilderness. There are stands of old cedars, grizzly habitats, great fishing--just a wonderful area. You can go all the way to Troy and see the Kootenai Falls, and then back to idaho through Moyie Springs and Bonners Ferry, and south on 95 to Sandpoint. That's a nice day trip.

You already know about Silverwood.

Also, within a week or so the Lake Pend Oreille dinner cruise ship should be open for business.
And if you go to the June 2011 Events thread you'll see a lot of stuff happening around Sandpoint, with links to more events.

Over_The_Rainbow, welcome to the Porch! Many of us have spent years just doing the planning and the research before making the move. Have fun narrowing down the best options for you, and ask questions on the forum!
