Sheesh! I walked outside this morning and it felt like it did when we moved here in early March. Perhaps it's time to prepare for winter.

It was 42 degrees here this morning. One tree down the way is starting to turn, but just the middle one of its three big forks, so it looks very weird. And I saw a big load of firewood go by yesterday. These are not good signs, right??

The signs are neither band nor good. Winter is coming for a fact, just as it does every year. All you saw was someone who was up in the woods preparing for it by cutting wood when it's easy to cut and haul.

I fully expect we will have a lon g Indian Summer this year. Whenever there is a late August cold snap, it's always meant a warm late September- mid October is ahead.

I'm just not quite ready for winter. We're hoping to squeeze a few more boat rides out of summer!

I just ordered more warm weather for you. Indian summer coming up in the next few weeks!

We're hoping to come up for a quick visit in the fall. The tamaracks had better be yellow by then!

Love those yellow tamaracks. They don't grow down here, and I miss them.

I am curious why some folks call these trees tamaracks.

Tamaracks (Larix_laricina) actually don't grow in Idaho, but are found in Canada, the upper midwest, and in the northeast.

The tree of the same Genus found in Idaho is the Larix occidentalis, commonly known as the western larch.
