We did a fall foliage run this weekend and the weather was great. I grew up in New England so I know what fall foliage can look like. Alas, it is quite green up here:

but we did find some color:

The best find was the Larch or Tamarack, deciduous conifer:

We stopped at a guest ranch for lunch:

Happy cows:

The trees end abruptly as you head east:

Thanks for the instant window to fall in NID! According to the Weather Channel website, fall color hasn't yet reached its peak:
weather.com - Map Room - Satellite Map, Weather Map, Doppler Radar Northwest US Fall Foliage

We've got a bunch of towering larches on our property--and one of these years we may actually watch them change color!

Default 10-10-10

Hi guys, nice calendar event happening today! The 10th day of the 10th month in '10. Been having this little annual celebration since 2001 (01-01-01, 02-02-02, etc.). We're obviously only going to have two more such events in this century. I'm going to try to time this post to coincide with 10 minutes after 10, Pacific/NID Time.

! Well, I say welcome on the porch to the moose, as long as they know their place and stay out of the cooler with the Kokanee...

Here's more animal news: Priest River is getting a new beaver family! Transplanted from Red Lake, WA.

The nine beavers were live-trapped by The Lands Council, a Spokane-based nonprofit. They’ll be released on private property near Priest River, where the landowner wants beaver dams and ponds for wildlife habitat and water storage.

We have beavers in residence here on our two ponds. It's amazing what size trees they can chew through! I love having them here.

You have beavers! Cool!!! Do you ever hear their tails slapping on the water at dawn, like in a Disney nature movie? I've always wanted to hear that. Don't know if Disney made it up...
