I know Frank Church ran for president in 1976 against Carter... and I'm guessing he was the last (only?) Idahoan to do it for a major party.

Alright. Here's the answer, a couple days is long enough. William Borah is Idaho's longest serving congressman. He was a progressive Republican, who endorsed FDR in 1932, but ran for president in 1936. He was unpopular with the conservative wing of the party including the governor of Idaho. He won the Wisconsin primary in 1936 and failed to endorse any candidate that year.

Names in Idaho you may recognize.
Borah High School (his nickname was the lion of Idaho, hence the mascot)
Mt. Borah (Idaho's tallest peak)
Borah Post Office (In downtown Boise, houses government offices now)
Borah Elementary school, an lots of other things.

I found Princeton, not far from Potlatch (and Harvard). Also found Yale, but it's not NID, it's down towards Pocatello. How about Vasser? Also near Potlatch, but not Ivy League AFAIK.
