I just read the raccoon article on KREM and I have to say that officer sounds like a dim bulb. The raccoon attacked the dog too...is that not a domestic animal?

Back when I was unfortunate enough to live in NY state (a birth defect), we had a real overpopulation of raccoons, and a high incidence of rabies in them. They were one of the few animals I would shoot on sight. Around here, bats make me nervous, due to rabies. Our cats will bring one home every once in a while, and we've had them fly in the house when we left the door open at night. Must look like a nice cave to them.

Bats don't bother me as long as they aren't the six footers like in Transylvania.

They bother me when they're inside. We had bats getting in under our roof and we could hear them scratching around up there. My husband plugged the tiny hole they were using to get in DURING THE DAY (!!!) and that evening they found another exit at the edge of the ridgepole...into the house! We had 5-6 bats flying around inside. Our cat promptly grabbed one and dispatched it, we whacked another with the broom and the others got out through all the windows and doors we opened. Yuck-Yuck-Yuck.

Yuck.

Oh don't get me started on bats. Those little buggers cost me $500 dollars this summer.

How? Well it kind of was my fault. I was using a big fishing net to catch it.
I swung and missed it and hit my ceramic cook top, shattered it into pieces.

The funny part was the bat stopped flying right away and just hung on the wood beam.
I swear it was staring at me making a high pitch sound.
I wonder if bats can laugh

Bats are kinda cute I think... But years ago we had one in the house. I used a boat oar to bat his litte bat a$$ into the wall.. It was a lucky swing cause it took about 20 swipes before the deed was done...LOL..

Sorry about the financial pain that little guy cost you, but your post just cost me a monitor. Sprayed coffee. I could just picture the little guy looking down on you and laughing.

We've used the fish net approach to get hummingbirds out of the house...going to have to keep your incident in mind.

We had bats at my last house that made a little condo under the eve. They use to head out to party about dark and who knows when they came back. I never had one come into the house though and hope I never do. They are dirty nasty rabies carrying critters, but do get rid of a lot of insects. So I should not use an oar or a large fish net to smite them. How about a pellet gun when they land. I can see it now red dot scope and all.....

I caught a nice size little bat on the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene fly fishing one evening a few years back. Neat little critter, but meannn.. took two of us and two sticks to hold it down gently enough and unhook the little guy and he just looked towards us like he was thinking "what the heck" then he took off. It was the catch of the day.

Our dog was attacked by a raccoon this year. Luckily her screams were heard before it could kill her. She had puncture wounds on her and one on her nose had to be stitched up. I have heard often of them killing dogs and cats.
