Man. One quilled dog is bad- 3 are terrible! It must have taken the vet hours, and knocking them out was the only way to get it done! I'll bet one got it worse than the other 2.

The best way to remove quills is to cut them first with scissors before you pull the quill. Snipping the quill makes it collapse, and it's much easier to pull.
And you have to get them all, or they will work their way inward. My Dad had a dog who died from an overlooked quill in his ear- it worked it's way into his brain.

There is a curious thing I've seen with dogs and porcupines. Sometimes a dog will develop a habit of seeking out the porkies, because the dog will get a lot of attention and sympathy when he comes back all quilled up, just to get it.

Most dogs only get quilled once- I've gotten quilled, and it hurts like 14 shades of hell, and it's the same for dogs. One quilling is almost always all it takes, but an unlucky dog may get quilled twice, especially if the porcupine wasn't hurt in the first encounter.

If a dog gets quilled 3 times, don't give them big sympathy... just haul them to a vet ASAP and ignore them until they've been cleaned. Dogs can do strange stuff for attention and sympathy.
