Hahaha...brings back memories...we'd roll up on some bangers, catch them red-handed holding dope or 417 or with stolen property, and the first thing they all say is "Hey, I just barely got here right now, eh?"....used to crack me up...

Wow...so the 'Northern Idaho vs Southern Idaho' discussion has turned into a gang war discussion. Interesting. Idaho's mindset is amusing, but understandable to a degree. I grew up in N. Idaho. I've lived in Lewiston, Post Falls, Coeur d' Alene, and Moscow (to go to UI). The northern and southern parts of the state are so different in topography....but not so much in ideology.

As to which is more urban, it depends greatly. Boise has grown immensely and the Treasure Valley is a great small urban area. Coeur d' Alene, which is practically a part of the Spokane metro, is fairly urban by Idaho standards. In fact, until recently, the Spokane-CDA area had a fairly greater population than Boise. The past decade has evened the score. There are no other urban areas in the state- everything else is made up of very small cities and a rural mentality.

I do think North Idaho holds an advantage in a couple of ways. One being that that natural environment is more beautiful with the massive lakes and alpine forests. Another being (albeit based in WA) its proximity to Spokane and moreso Seattle - where I now reside. Not only is CDA a beautiful city, but access to fantastic recreation and some of the West Coast's largest cities makes it a step above and beyond Boise IMHO.

I mean look at the Boise area 20 years ago there were not Mexican gangs down there or if there were they were not as large and a problem as they are now. I am from Northern Idaho and there are hardly any hispanics up here must be to cold not sure or to many rednecks. But I am seeing that crimes are starting to become more and more violent and frequent down in Boise just look at the idaho statesman they have a whole section of the paper dedicated to crime. What does everyone think of this and do you see the athorities doing anything to stop it down there.
I disagree, almost all of the Aryan Nations moved to Idaho, not the other way around. Mainly due to small government presence and a lot of wilderness type areas, not the other way around, and now most have packed up and left.

As for N. Idaho v. S. Idaho, meh I like them both. I've met lots of people from up there. My roommates are from Sandpoint and honestly they're kind of tools, but a lot of other people I've met from up there are cool. I will say this about CDA, hot girls everywhere. I was in High School when I went and was pretty amazed.

Yes the Boise metro area has caught up with the Spokane-CDA metro area. Boise grew 10.5% this past decade and I believe is starting to top out on population compared to past decades where they were about 20% population growth and hadnt been below 23% since 1960. I still think that CDA will explode in population someday when they bring down house prices and land prices. I remember when I lived up there a little 2 bedroom 1 bath house that looked run down was for sale 2 blocks from the lake by the North Idaho Campus and was priced at 2 million dollars. Also with the interest from celebs like Barbra Walters placing it on her most interesting places to visit list and Tiger Woods playing at the nationally known golf course (not sure if any publicity is good from him right now though.) Call me crazy but I think CDA has the potential to grow to almost the same size as Boise some day.

I have to agree with sdaly on this one as much as I hate the thought of it. I hope when it happens I am too old to notice.

Does Southeast Idaho count? I hire alot of folks who travelled here from Namba/Boise and Washington, some from California and Utah, sometimes from farther afield, but have not met anyone from Northern Idaho since we moved here 1.5 years ago.

Oops with the exception of some coworkers at a sister office in CDA, but, like everyone else in our company, they totally rock!

We have exactly the same problem down here in Utah. The LDS church brought in the Tongan gang families in the 80's and it's been one gang infection after another, hispanic and Tongan mainly. They go fairly unchecked and tend to inhabit several particular parts of town, but their impact is felt all over. I feel the only appropriate thing to do is capture them, and place them in a firing squad. Get rid of them as they are a lice upon society. This would apply to ANY antisocial group or individual AFAIAC. But like you aptly pointed out, most are like ostriches with their heads in the sand. How pathetic.
