Hi there—some help from those of you that know these two areas…

I am debating applying for two jobs. One in Idaho Falls and the other in Pocatello. My qualifications do not satisfy the specific experience requirements, however I think if the organization was willing to train me on a few items, I would be more than qualified for the jobs.

Long story short.... what does the job market in these areas look like? Are there many qualified people for little qualified jobs... or since these areas are a bit more rural, is it more difficult for employers to find qualified individuals. Do you find that qualified people are willing to move to Pocatello or Idaho Falls?

The job(s) I would be applying for are consulting in nature, and although I am currently a consultant, I have a background in business process improvement/risk management/IT auditing and do not have experience in medicaid billing & claims. Even though I’m not technically qualified, I am hopeful since this is a smaller area, they might give me a shot considering my background. I am currently living in SF and really want to get back to the intermountain west! Thoughts?

Thanks!!!

That's a tough one as our unemployment is really low in SE Idaho. Not to say it can't be done however, but I think that would mean some communication with the potential employers.

Pocatello's job market is slim pickings. There are so many people in Pocatello searching for a job and it seems like no one is getting hired from flipping burgers to more advanced/experience needed jobs. I'm not saying it can't be done but the competition is strong at the moment for any sort of paycheck.

Definitely apply though and stay in contact with the employers! It never hurts to give it a try and fight for what you want. It sounds like you would be in the top picks for your job based on the information you provided.

Good luck!
