Has any one lived in all 3 areas? I'm thinking of spending a month or so in summer 2010 in one of these resort towns to just decompress, hike, bike, read and do a little hanging out in town. Any opinions on which you like best and why?

I havent ever lived in any of those places but have been to all 3... They are all beautiful, and all have strong points.. I think Idaho might be more conducive to certain activities though.. From what my friend tells me who lives nearby, Colorado is getting kinda wierd about cant do this, dont ride here, dont go there kind of rules and laws... Just my .02 FWIW.

I think the Sun Valley area will give you the most bang for your buck. It seemed pretty calm (tourist-wise) in late summer last year, if that makes a difference. Still a little pricey, but not so much as the Colorado spots. Plus, there seemed to be much less restrictions on outdoor activities, as Trace alluded. Plus, if you want to find your adventuresome side, you can find inspiration in the Hemingway sites.

Yes I'm leaning towards Ketchum/Sun Valley. It seems to have the cheapest rentals of the 3. The Sawtooths are so gorgeous too and I'm sure the hiking in the Frank Church has to be pristine. What types of the Hemmingway sites are there in Ketchum?
