We passed a huge clinic here and made us wonder, does CDA have a lot of people who have asthma? In other words, does the air cause problems for people with compromised respiratory systems?

It used to, but not as much now. Up until a few years ago local farmers in the Palouse area would burn their fields in the fall. That caused problems. It has been greatly curtailed in the last ten years.

In time we will have pollution because of all the cars. This area is prone to have a lot of inversions. Spokane is already having air quality issues. We are next. Smog checks will be next here in Idaho...

Ejay, they already require smog testing/equipping in Boise, FYI. I noticed you are from Hayden, we drove through there quite a bit last week, and seemed like a nice little community if one had to live close to CDA. How long have you lived there? What do you like/not like about it?

Been in Hayden Fifteen Years. What I don't like is the growth and the loss of the small town atmosphere Hayden used to have. With the wall mart coming in traffic will become a problem in time. You used to be able to go to the lake for a quick swim in the summer. Now you have to park a half mile away to take a dip. I like the fact that Hayden is still smaller than Cda. Once your north of Wyoming it gets a lot better and the houses have bigger lots and lot's of trees in the yards. The neighborhoods are old and established there and it looks nicer than living on the prairie in a new sub division to me. There is an Airport in Hayden and I have had customers complain about the airplanes flying over their heads it's not that bad. Hayden is very close to the woods so I can get out to my spots in the woods pretty quickly. I have lived in Post Falls Rathdrum Cda and Hayden. And for me Hayden is by far the best I place I have lived in the area.

The worst air conditions are typically during hot, dry summers when we get a lot of smoke blowing in from wildfires and settling in our inversion area. Some also comes from slash burning in the mountains in the fall. Both of these last quite a while. The field burning that used to be done on the Rathdrum praire was only done on days when the wind would take it out of the area, and due to the light fuel they didn't burn long anyway.
