Classic! I think next time I'll mark down, "One Gene Away From Flingin' Poo"

Yeah, the whole hysteria is purely ideologically driven. My hysteria was only through my disdain of government in general. lol Of course, if government was the size it supposed to be as stipulated by the Constitution, then I'd probably happily fill out my form every 10 years.

Thank you Sactown11, that was the best belly laugh I've had all week. Man, now I wish I had not sent in my Census yet ... drats!

Question Do My Pets Count?

Thank you all for your answers. In no way do I think answers were political. I posted here as I thought this is where I could get the most common sense answers from people who actually think about many things.

I love the different answers posted for the race question. I suppose someone could also say they aren't athletic and therefore their answer is N/A (I'm j/k).

I do know many feel they only need to post the number of people living in the household and turn it in. As for census workers, it's concerning to me that some are warning WHAT NOT to answer the workers, as they aren't allowed to ask some questions.

Unfortunately, I do believe the census is important as the population shifts and The House of Representives needs to reflect that. At the moment I'm not in Idaho as I'm caring for a sick relative in a state that will be one of the battleground states about adding a new district.

Wonder if I should count the pets as occupants living here?

Thanks again for your great answers .....

MSR

The form wasn't as intrusive as I expected it to be with all the hype.. But I still only answered the number and age of the people in my house. I don't see how race matters in determining a city's infrastructure needs, etc..

Oh, by all means, I think you should include our pets in the occupancy count....they are "people", too.

I would also suggest an additional question for the census: Please tell us in your own words what you think of your Federal government and this census (please limit your response to no more than 120,000 words).

Saw a local newscaster this afternoon state, "if you are having problems understanding or answering the questions on the census, call..."

If someone is having trouble with this, they probably would also have trouble making a phone call.

Wow. Just wow.

Mainstream news sources report no one has ever been prosecuted for non compliance in filling out the census.

The "long form" of the American Community Survey (which has replaced the "long" census form) is another experience entirely!!! A percentage of all households got "lucky" and were selected for that special treat .
Here's the old Long Form of the census from 2000: http://www.census.gov/dmd/www/pdf/d-61b.pdf
Here's info about the ongoing ACS that has replaced the Long Form: American Community Survey (ACS)
