Hmmm. . . . I guess this proves that 70% of citizens are racists. After all, only the rabid anti-illegal racists want illegals to leave.
Nah, it proves that 70% of Americans are in favor of paying to boot them back to their countries, the other 30% is in favor of making their own butts pay for their trip back home

The majority of polling done on this issue always find that a majority of the American public support some form of comprehensive immigration reform.
Well, to begin with, the poll wasn't "commissioned" by O'Leary. It merely is quoted in an editorial by O'Leary. You DO understand the difference between an editorial and an actual analysis of said poll, right?
Secondly, there are an equal number of organizations/sites/analysts who are pro or con Zogby. I guess it depends on whether or not you like the results, eh?
The FOX News poll was taken by a random phone sampling of 900 people. The article does not indicate how questions were forumulated to those who participated and the sampling size is fairly small. Having had my share of "Statistics for the Social Sciences" in college, I have learned that bigger is better when it comes to polling. I'll stick with the larger sampling sizes, thanks. Besides, a number of FOX's own online polls in which thousands of people participate show that a majority of Americans are vehemently against so-called "comprehensive immigration reform." FOX, as you will see at the end of my reply, is not to be trusted when it comes to polling on this issue.
Here are a few more immigration polls from other sources. It seems that the American people are more oriented toward enforcement and much less toward any sort of amnesty.
As the country wrestles with a future of historic-level deficits, 67% of U.S. voters say that illegal immigrants are a significant strain on the U.S. budget.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 23% disagree and do not believe illegal immigration is a strain on the budget.
Two-out-of-three (66%) voters say the availability of government money and services draw illegal immigrants to the United States. Nineteen percent (19%) think otherwise and do not believe government money and services are a magnet for illegal immigration. Another 15% are not sure.
These findings help to explain why 68% say gaining control of the border is more important than legalizing the status of undocumented workers already living in the United States. Twenty-six percent (26%) think legalizing illegal immigrants is more important.
The majority support for controlling the borders has been consistent through several years of surveying.
And finally, FOX News and Opinion Dynamics, the firm which conducted the poll you've cited, might want to give more time between polls before publicizing such direct and contradictory results. I am not sure what kind of nation shattering changes may have occurred that would shift public opinion so dramatically in favor of amnesty in just two months. See question number 33 in the link provided. This poll, commissioned two months before the poll you've cited states that 61% of Americans believe we need to enforce our existing immigration laws vs. 34% that believe we need to overhaul our laws.
Perhaps the answer is in the announcement between these two polls that FOX News owner and Newscorp CEO Rupert Murdoch now supports Comprehensive Amnesty for illegal aliens? Hmmm....?

You apparently didn't read the whole article you posted. The poll was commissioned by O'leary.

[LEFT]The Zogby International poll was commissioned by The O'Leary Report newsletter. The Poll surveyed 2,062 likely voters August 20-23, and has a margin-of-error of plus-or-minus 2.2 percentage points. To view full poll results and crosstabs, go to www.OLearyReport.com.

I know that past criticisms of Zogby included lack of geographical diversity, hopefully that has been rectified. I wonder what the Public Policy Poll vs. Rasmussen Reports state. Since there have significant differences between the two on various topics in the past, it would be interesting to see what these two polls state.

Uh-Oh! There's that dreaded "D" word again that so many liberals swear by. Maybe the poll would be more fair if it was taken at a place where the latino minority sat around 80%.

Mea culpa. Reading between getting my son ready for school, fixing his breakfast and lunch and missed a few sentences.
However, be that as it may, the poll still lines up with the majority of American viewpoints toward illegal immigration and that, is the true issue at hand.
What say you regarding the abrupt about face of FOX?
The existing Federal Law provides for deportation and twice as many were deported last year as the year before. SB 1070 provides for the arrest of illegals, now they would need a lawyer and court hearing

Didn't you know? Unless the responses are from "geographically diverse" neighborhoods they're not actually valid, true or reliable....LOL You really have to have higher crime rates, lower educational atainment and financial poverty before the results will be deemed satisfactory. Otherwise, it's only a bunch of responses from the white racists. Surprisingly though, many, if given the opportunity, want to move-on-up to the racist white neighborhoods. But then their responses won't mean much will it.....

What’s your point? When illegals are deported, they aren’t simply apprehended and put on a bus. They receive a court hearing. Only now, their cases are not even being heard. They’re automatically assumed to be “potential citizens” and are released.

Do they get a public defender? SB1070 makes it a CRIME, they will have MIRANDA RIGHTS, including a PUBLIC DEFENDER, that you apparently want to pay for. They can't be bailed out so you will also have to house and feed them.
oh, that's right you are thousands of miles away and won't have to live with the mess this law will make if it is allowed

Either way, we pay. Who do you think pays the judges’ salaries, and other court costs for deportation hearings?
Furthermore, my location is irrelevant. Illegal immigration is not restricted to your region of the country. We have millions of illegal aliens on the East Coast; and, we also pay for their incarceration, legal representation, etc. You may be a point of entry, but no state has been spared from this scourge.
BTW, my state is also considering a similar law. I wholeheartedly support it.
