Be sure and read all the comments following this story. It's no wonder there is such disconnect with this issue by the horrendously poor reporting that circulates around this Country.

Then, in 1998 that all changed. Now I don’t sleep, as my residents call each night sometimes panicky, sometimes resigned to this as a way of life, but always with a shaky voice: “they are at my door.” This is not a weekend activity. This is every single night. Cochise County is a gateway to tens of thousands of illegal aliens entering the U.S. to provide the rest of our country with drugs. If my deputies and I are prohibited from enforcing the law to stop these border jumpers, your families in Plainsville, Ohio, or Charlotte, North Carolina, are going to continue to be in harm’s way and see the percentage of crimes by illegal aliens rise.

Carlos Slim is rich because he's in bed with the ruling class in Mexico. The Mexican ruling class favors unlimited immigration of low skilled migrants to the United States. This way they avoid paying taxes to help their fellow unskilled citizens. Much better to ship them here where they become our burden instead.

I strongly suspect Slim is dictating the large number of inane articles the NY Times runs each week on immigration. They basically push immigration policies that promote the needs of Mexico's ruling class even when said policies are vastly detrimental to the needs of most Americans.
