Applies to all southern border states ... Wikileaks revelation that 'US has lost faith in Mexico's ability to win drugs war' ...

US has lost faith in Mexico's ability to win drugs war, WikiLeaks cables show | World news | The Guardian

Use this in tandem with the government pulling out troops from the border, all to be gone by the end of June 2011.

We have lived with illegal immigration and drugs passing through out state for years, it's nothing new.
These people are supplying a demand here and it's not going to stop.
The problem lies with our inability to increase the penalties enough to stop both.
Until we decide we have had enough it will continue.

Right You Are

As long as the murders, rapes, kidnappings, ID theft, and credit fraud is happening to everyone EXCEPT our elected local/state/federal officials, their family members, and close friends -- illegal Entry and smuggling into the U.S.A. is officially NOT A PROBLEM.

"They [the Americans] have a clear responsibility in this because they are providing the market for the drug dealers and the criminals," President Calderón said. "They need to do a lot more in terms of reducing the consumption of drugs and to stop the flow of weapons towards Mexico.

I'd like to see Mexico account for all of the funds we've sent them to combat this especially seeing that most Mexican officials are on the take from both sides

Last I heard, the drug lords and other criminals in Mexico can get their weapons elsewhere a whole boatload cheaper than they can from the U.S.

Reportedly, according to wikileaks the U.S. assessment of president Calderón and the stability of Mexico is that one is not effective and the later is teetering on a total state of anarchy.

There is nothing for it but to militarize the border and tighten everything up. Where there is a demand the drugs will find their way into the country someway or the other but we can achieve a great deal more limiting that traffic and preventing realitively easy transit of undesirables into the U.S.

Weapons not available to U.S. citizens are in the hands of the drug cartels through their corruption of police and military plus international sources open to them. They have plenty of money to get pretty much whatever they need. They do not have to rely on purchases from north of the border.

Really !!! The Mexican President,Politicians,Police force and about all the rest of their Government is a joke. Easily bribed and bought.

A Country like Mexico with it's natural resouces and large workforce should be an economic world power. Look at Japan and Korea that were decimated by war and had their land and economy devastated. They both are now world economic powers.

The best Mexico has done is siphon off it's wealth to benefit it's ruling class while it sends it's mostly ignorant, uneducated peasants to the US to parasite off the American tax payer.

And like they say, as long as there is a demand for weapons and ammunition, someone will fill the need. Gun control in Mexico isn't working, it's time to legalize all weapons.

The USA government is also quite complicit in this. We like to condemn Mexico - yet we're the ones who keep the border open to the drug cartels and in fact have turned control over the border to them.

Also like the 14 year old sicario who was born in the USA, we allow the worst kinds of criminals to exploit the border, they can kill in Mexico and then escape justice by simply coming over the border - exactly what the 14 year old killer and his sisters who hung the corpses from the bridges intended to do. They were arrested by the Mexican authorities enroute to San Diego, but as they have US citizenship (anchor babies) they could easily have come on over to join their mother in San Diego.

Very often we allow the worst criminals to do whatever they please in Mexico but as they are residents in the USA, they can flee over the border anytime they please. The cartel lord "La Barbie" was also a US citizen - anchor birth.

Also in order to get tons of drugs easily and quickly over the border every day, it requires a whole lot of corruption on the USA side - we really can't blame Mexico completely when the drugs that leave the warehouses in Juarez can make it into every city and town in the USA within just hours. Sure Mexico allows the drugs to be grown and shipped from South America, transported through Mexico to the border - but our government allows the drugs to come over the border and be transported throughout the entrie USA.
