Harboring is different than employing.... The couple plead guilty to harboring as well as employing. IMO they got off light...
Quote:
The couple ran El Centenario Bar and admitted to harboring illegal immigrant women working as barmaids at the rural Mission establishment.
Harboring:
By contrast, “harboring” requires that a person not only knowingly hire and/or employ undocumented aliens, but intends to help them avoid detection by law enforcement personnel. The maximum penalty for harboring is five years jail time for each alien harbored, and in the case where the crime is committed for commercial advantage, the penalty is up to 10 years jail time per harboring charge.
We're seeing more and more people being arrested that are involved with the border patrol and social security cards. It's a good thing.
It's interesting to me though that US citizens usually get much harsher penaltys than illegals.
Well what are we supposed to do? Throw them in OUR prisons so they can get a free home and meal on our expense? There's not much we can do other than deport them and wait for them to sneak back in. Like I said many times. If we're ever going to stop illegal immigration we're going to have to be severe on people who aid and employ them. Until then it will always be a problem.

There is much more that can be done. I would actually be nice to illegals. First they get a chance to be voluntarily deported as long as they committed no other crime including that of felony document fraud. They go home with a clean record that way and can later apply to immigrate legally if they wish - along with all others who wish to come here legally. No special rights for having broken the law however, they can get in line behind the others already waiting in it.
If they wish to linger and be formally deported - fine - but then they have to have that on their record and should be banned for at least 10 years from legal entry of any kind.
And no illegal no matter how many times he paid the cartel to be smuggled over the border should ever be considered for US citizenship. They should never be given any government handouts, including food stamps as a reward for simply giving birth here. Cut off the handouts and rewards, fine the employers and much of this problem could be ended.
