BBC News - Mexican President Felipe Calderon set for US visit

"Commentators say that the costs of Mexico's drug war, diplomatic cable leaks, anti-immigration initiatives in the US and the influx of US arms into Mexico are all working to degrade a relationship between the two countries that had until recently seen improvement in the past several years".

Anti-"immigration" initiatives? No sorry, anti-"illegal immigration" initiatives.

If Calderon really wanted Mexico fixed, he'd be promoting the enforcement of the borders.

He should want his people to stay and help build their country, all those people hurridly packing their beds to run to the USA aren't doing anything for their country but abandoning it.

Mexico may be fine in the interior but the mass exodus of people from the northern border states is obviously not helping.

Ciudad Juarez is a good example. It was just a few years ago the shining NAFTA city, and so much cartel money making it look prosperous but now all that money has packed up and moved to El Paso and Juarez is collapsing. Rows and rows of Infonavit houses sit empty or taken over by very violent gangs and drug users. Restaurants and clubs are closed. It's estimated that a fourth of the city's population has fled - most of course to the USA. Food stamp applications in El Paso are at an all time high.
