CA Spends $1 Billion a Year to Jail Illegals

According to data from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation from December 2010, just under 17,000 inmates in the state are on hold for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and in addition, there are just under 4,000 prisoners listed as potential ICE holds. At a cost of almost $45,000 a year to house an inmate, that’s a cost of nearly $1 billion to house the undocumented immigrants.

While that is a lot of money, it is only about one tenth of what illegals cost California each year, according to the best estimates. Ten billion a year to make sure our southern neighbor criminal invaders feel right at home and enjoy the good American life. It will likely get worse, as tougher stances in neighboring states such as Arizona drive the illegals to seek an easier life in California.

I think securing our southern border is definitely extremely important, and even critical. But, I believe the biggest factor of this invasion is the lure of the free assistance, in many forms. Assistance even American born citizens can not secure for themselves!

√ Repeal birth right citizenship.
√ End free or ER medical care, only unless it's is life threatening.
√ Stop, food stamps, WIC, section 8, etc.
√ Allow law enforcement to verify legal status.
√ Encourage profiling. Yes that's right, profiling is not a dirty word! It's logical and critical to our survival. It may not be politically correct and yes, some, maybe even many will feel harassed for being incorrectly profiled. Sorry, this is an invasion force we're dealing with, life's not fair in war, deal with it. If it weren't for profiling most terrorists would not have been discovered. If it weren't for profiling the FBI wouldn't have been able to solve many cases, serial killer profiling as just one example.

There really isn't a need to round them (illegals) all up, so to speck, as long as we could implement a few common sense tactics as I listed above. How long do you think they would try and stay here if the freebies stopped and law enforcement were allowed to enforce our laws?

Unfortunately, as many of you have already said, our federal government has it's own agenda and would fight these issues tooth and nail. That's why it's going to have to get done state by state. Even nanny states like NY and CA would eventually have to follow suit. They'll never be able to sustain the illegal flow from the other states that are enforcing their laws.
