I'd love to see them try that. AZ and TX are notable for their lax gun laws, and NM wouldn't exactly be a pushover either- the southern half of the state is very conservative and whatnot. CA wouldn't fare so well, though.
"Civil War" also implies conflict between people in the same ethnic group/country. This would just be one of those boring, plain, "regular" wars.

Are you sure about that? A Zogby poll says that 58% of Mexicans think that the southwest belongs to them and that they have a right to come here at will.

Its been reported the Mexican cartels have submarines undetected,
they have killed hundreds of Mexicans that did not want to be representatives in American cities.
They recently bomb a Casino.
I would not take them lightly. We have a failed state on our border that has citizens within our gates.
Clearly we need to gear up and spend another trillion dollars or so on another war to prevent absolutely nothing. THAT will really get the economy booming!
I don't think throwing money at it if it happens would be wise of the fed. govt. Were it to happen, private citizens would actually be doing a lot of things because it would be the first time anyone has officially started anything on our territory since 1812, I believe.
They would call it an act of terrorism unless states cede.
