Hit-And-Run Driver Who Killed Valet Sentenced - Denver News Story - KMGH Denver

Quote:
DENVER -- Norma Vera-Nolasco, 32, was driving a truck that struck and killed 21-year-old Jose Medina as he was parking cars outside the Rockstar Lounge on Jan. 22. Prosecutors said Vera-Nolasco was drunk and didn't stop.Vera-Nolasco pleaded guilty to felony vehicular homicide and faced a maximum of 12 years in prison.
She was caught trying to escape back to Mexico, using her sister's identification and was charged with criminal impersonation. This woman is an illegal alien who had a previous arrest for hit-and-run and was also arrested in 2008 for driving without a license or insurance. ICE was notified at the time. If she had been deported back then Mr. Medina would still be alive.

So a convicted criminal who entered this country illegally, drives without a license or insurance, drives drunk, and kills someone in a hit-and-run, and has prior arrests gets sentenced to only 12 years? And this is the maximum sentence allowed for this sort of crime?

Would this have been less tragic if the driver had been legal?

Does this have anything to do with illegal immigration?

Or were you just looking to make a cheap political point out of a human tragedy?

This individual does not reflect all illegals or even most. But, what this case is indictitive of is our poor management of the border and illegals when they are caught. Every person killed or victimized by an illegal quite simply is a victim that never should have happened.
I know we'll hear from the pro-side. but but but legal citizens drive drunk too.
Yeah and that doesnt mean we need to import more nor does it mean it is acceptable when an illegal does it.

But it's not an illegal immigration issue. More people is going to mean more crime, more car accidents, etc. etc. Is that really an argument about illegal immigration at all?

Yes it is. As you said more people more accidents. All the more so when said illegals can't speak or read english. Many of whom have never studied or taken a test to show they are qualified to be on our roads. This is a common enough theme. In an accident. Not only worried about being in trouble for a DUI but also for immigration status. They attempt to flee the scene often times successfully. No insurance, no license etc.

Those are not the same problem as "more immigrants = more accidents." I mean, we could deport all white people, less white collar crime guaranteed! More people means more crime, more accidents, more 7-11's, whatever. If there is data regarding illegal immigrants and DUIs or whatever, that's another story.

The fact remains. Most states do not allow illegals to have a licence. The fact remains that many illegals, too many are involved in accidents. If you google it one is amazed at the number of on the web. Its not a once in a blue moon fluke. Then to learn that for many its not the first time........

It's too bad the victims family can't sue the federal govt for damages in these cases.

They should be able to sue any and all bureaucrats that allowed the illegal to be released from custody after their first arrest. Or the ones that prevent their local LEO's from calling ICE.

Wait, "too many are involved in accidents" is a FACT? I'll need a citation for that.
