I'm thinking that ID theft is indeed what this thread is about.
Yes! Let's get back to that. apparently it's SO BAD that even when the OP cherry picks his quotes, the best he can find is a case where an illegal used the SSN of a dead person (and one who had no spouse or dependents, so there was virtually NO CHANCE of using this SSN causing problems for survivors).
Clearly, we should all be losing sleep over this LURKING MENACE out there!

This is one article and one incident out of MILLIONS of victims of ID theft, both living and dead. So, yes, we do need to be mindful of this LURKING MENACE. If you read an article involving the murder of one person by strangulation, would you assume that is the ONLY strangulation murder victim in this country, and trivialize the crime of strangulation? Of course not! Then, why are you trying so hard to downplay this despicable crime against the deceased?

The article points out that there are 200,000 ID thefts in one state (Florida) per year. That would assume 1,000,000,000 per year in the 50 states.
I'm convinced that all 1,000,000,000 are using the SS# of dead people with no surviving family. That is the only logical conclusion one could draw, right?

lol
A) you can't extrapolate as if florida is just an average state. Florida has the 4th largest population of the US states.
B) you're bad at math. There aren't 1,000,000,000 people in the US.
C) the 200,000 ID thefts in florida aren't all committed by illegals. So your sarcastic comment of a billion dead people having their IDs stolen is a non-starter.
BTW, just for fun, when a US citizen engages in identity theft, do you think they are more likely to fraudulently use the SSN of a living or a dead person?

Would you believe that since Florida has 200,000 ID thefts per year that there may perhaps be 200,001 that happen if we include the other 49 states? I don't have a link so I know it's a stretch. That figure is high enough to cause concern for me. Not the 200,000 but the 200,001. But it does allay my fears somewhat to know that out of the 200,000 at least one was stolen from a dead person. I guess I can rest easy knowing that my ID is safe until I die and my kids can sort it all out.
BTW, I have seen no stats on how citizens go about stealing someone's identity. It isn't the topic of the conversation so I see no reason to look it up. If you would like to start a thread about it feel free.
Well since you don't have a link CLEARLY the best thing to do is just assume it MUST BE ONE BILLION.
Obviously a typo my friend but if it's all ya got, RUN WITH IT, I always say.
