Dayton Mayor Gary Leitzell read a statement during Wednesday's city commission meeting saying the Welcome Dayton program is not about harboring illegal immigrants or drawing them into the city. He says the focus instead is on treating all people kindly, fairly and humanely. (http://columbustelegram.com/news/national/article_313261e5-c3d6-5f26-979a-f59772ec7234.html - broken link)
Is this guy on crack? Dayton really doesn't need to encourage any more unskilled, low wage workers to compete with its depressed manufacturing based worker base.
I'm sure all the unemployed mill and factory workers would LOVE an influx of people who would be willing to do the jobs they used to do for half the price!
Ohio is my home state BTW and I love Ohio and would love to move back but the economy in my hometown, like Dayton, is not that great and it is hard to find employment. That money would be better spent improving the school system and trying to attract new industries to the city versus trying to lure in illegals who are only going to end up costing more money with their demands for social services.
I hope my hometown doesn't go this route.
